Out of the five senses, sight is by far the most important. Our reliance on what we see helps determine our reality around us. Whether it’s to capture the beauty of a multi-colored sunset or to assess the risk of a dangerous situation, our sight is invaluable to perceiving what is in front of us.
You might be familiar with the adage ‘seeing is believing.’ Yet this is solely wisdom of the world. As Christ-followers, you and I cannot consider everything that we see as truth, for we live and walk by faith. “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1) The fundamental truths of what a Christian believes hinges on what we do not see and rests in faith alone – it is this faith that pleases God who rewards those who earnestly seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).
Here’s the wonder of it all – the Lord has prepared incredible things for His people. God’s intentions towards you are good, pleasing, and perfect. He is making a way for you through the desert and across the valley. There is no mountain that He cannot level and no depth too far below to reach you. He is God! On top of this, He deeply desires a relationship with you and that He had purposed before the foundation of the world. Woah!
There’s a verse that speaks about these intentions from the eyes of the Creator, who has everything – including you – in His hands. Even if you cannot see it yet – do not worry – some desires, dreams, and plans are made known in His timing. The best part is that He will reveal them to you!
“However, as it is written:
“What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived” —
the things God has prepared for those who love him—
these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.
The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.”
1 Corinthians 2:9-10
In God’s manifold wisdom, He has kept hidden His plans to the world – even to send His Son as a Savior. We know this is so; otherwise, they would not have crucified Jesus! While the Lord hides His intentions to those who do not know Him, He takes delight in those who diligently seek Him. God desires to reveal His unique, specific, and particular purposes to each of us. We all are fearfully and wonderfully made in His image (Psalm 139:14), and He has the best intentions for us to find those plans, own them, and live them.
The best part of this encouragement is that while others cannot see what is next for you – the totality and finality of the incredible things that are in store for you – God has already seen it. No human eye has seen, but God knows. He doesn’t want to keep it all to Himself either – He wants to share it! For you are part of the Kingdom of God, and He shares details with those who are friends of God (John 15:14).
For some of you, the Lord has given you dreams and desires that have already been stirring inside of you. The Holy Spirit is the great revealer and will show you pieces of what that plan is… all working out towards what God has prepared for you. Think of each piece to the puzzle, slowly revealing the big picture. As you keep walking in what you know and being faithful in each step, more will be seen until you get a fuller sense of what God is showing you.
For others, you have never thought about this before. Perhaps you’ve thought about the general will of God and obedience as your Christian duty but did not realize or image God cares about your specific calling that is on your life. He has it all laid out… don’t you want to know? You have the Holy Spirit, who searches the deep things of God. He can reveal the things God has prepared for you since there are revealed by the Spirit. I’d hate to ask again, but… don’t you want to know?
And some think it is too late to think about God’s intentions for your life. You might think that you made poor decisions in the past, you are too old to start, or that God speaks to others but not to you. These are all lies from the enemy to keep you from knowing the true and living God who sees everything under the heavens (Job 28:24). He knows the secrets of the heart (Psalm 44:21), and His eyes see every step man takes (Job 34:21). It’s never too late… look at Moses!
Wherever you are in trusting God’s plan for yourself, I ask that you ask Him about His intentions for living the Spirit-filled life. What dreams, desires, passions have been stirring within you? Give those to the Lord and ask if they are from Him. If you know that they are, what can you do now to be faithful? Surely His timing will put you in its proper position, but you can partner in the process to get you best prepared for it.
Don’t let others put doubt into what God has put inside of you! Only He can see with perfect vision, and He’s prepared what next for you on this side of eternity, before you get to Heaven. Trust God and ask Him what He has in store for you. And if you need help? Don’t worry! “For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.” (2 Chronicles 16:9). It looks like He has His sights set on YOU.
Blessings!
