Wake Up!

I want to share with you a vision[1] that I had when I was in our monthly prayer meeting. While someone in the group was praying out loud, I received in my mind the image of a giant – he was so abnormally large, greater than anything anyone has ever seen! Immediately I knew where I had seen a giant like this before; it was in the classic novel, ‘Gulliver’s Travels’, by Jonathan Swift, published in 1726. Although I had not read the book, I had watched a portion of the television miniseries years ago.

This giant, in my vision, was not only similar in size as to the giant in the series, but comparable, also, to what happens next to the giant. This gigantic man is laid out on the floor and he is asleep. Since he is deep in his slumber, people of normal size (which seem like ants next to him) come over and begin to tie him up. It takes great effort, many people, and a lot of rope to tie him. After much time, they are able to put rope across his whole body from head to toe. The fascinating part is that, although all these little people are crawling up and around the giant, he does not awake from his, seemingly, unconscious stupor.

After this vision, I immediately knew the interpretation, since the Holy Spirit gave it to me. This is a message for all who consider themselves Christ-followers. If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, this is for you.

The giant represents the Body of Christ. There are millions who claim to know Christ and there are millions that love Him. Yet what is happening to the giant is how the Lord sees His people, especially united as one. The giant is asleep, as are many in the Body of Christ.

Fellow believer, you do not realize the power of the Spirit of God that resides within you, do you? “Greater is He that is in YOU than he that is in the world” (that is, Satan) – 1 John 4:4. The question is: what are we doing with the power that God has given us? We see what is going on in the world – violence, hatred, acceptance of sin, tolerance of evil, and confusion of all kinds. Yet the response of many believers – both individually and corporately, is not praying ‘your Kingdom come, YOUR WILL BE DONE on Earth as it is in Heaven’ (Matthew 6:10). Instead, the Body of Christ is asleep. We are asleep when…

  • We do not dedicate ourselves to pursuing the Lord in His Word and see what He wants from us;
  • We are not looking at the world with compassion to see how we can pray – to intercede for those that are lost, including worldly Christians;
  • Avoiding issues that make them uncomfortable rather than taking a stand.

Here’s the reality – while much of the Body of Christ has been ‘sleeping’, the enemy has been gaining ground. What good is it for someone to have power (us in God) if that person or people do not know how to use it? The enemy can easily send his forces to come upon us and tie us up. Although we are giant in number and strong when united, we are weak and ineffective if we do not use what the Holy Spirit has given us. As a result of our passivity, and our satisfaction with the bare minimum of pursing God, the enemy has tied us down in some areas. He’s attempting to keep us down and convince us that we are powerless and useless, but this is a lie. He doesn’t want us to know the power that we have with the authority that Christ has given each and every one of us. “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12).

People of God, it is time to wake up!

Slumber no more!

We have to rise up and free ourselves from the enemy tying us down. It is time to dedicate ourselves to seeking the Lord’s face (Psalm 27:8). It is time to become the prayer warriors of God He is desiring us to become. It is the time for us to shake off the lukewarmness, the excuses, and not putting the Lord as our number one priority. If we seek Jesus wholeheartedly, the enemy has to flee (James 4:7). We will rise up and break off ropes of hindrance and the sin so easily entangles us (Hebrews 12:1). We will see the Lord make a way for us that no person could ever do for us. We will be strengthened by the fruits of our labor as we see answers to our petitions and prayers. We can see others come into a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, even those that seem the most far off and unwilling… He can and will. Will we join Him in what He has for each of us? Will we rise up and not let the enemy have another day? Will we unite as believers knowing that there is great power when we come together?

I pray that this vision and the interpretation of it speaks to you in a way that draws you to the Father in prayer. Allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you in light of what was just mentioned. Where do you see yourself ‘asleep?’ Do you also see this in areas within your small group, church, or community? Now the BIG question: “What are you going to do about it?” May the Holy Spirit give you the wisdom to know what to do and the perseverance to continue through with what He gave you.

Have a blessed week!

[1] This is considered a ‘closed vision’ or also know as an impression/inner vision – you receive a picture in your mind that was given to you by the Holy Spirit

  1. Amen!! It is time to wake up!! This is a really great reminder for me especially, cause I feel that most of the time “I’m asleep” and too distracted. But God is really amazing and full of grace that He lovingly reminds us of who we really are, our true identity which is , we are His children.

    • Yes! Many times distractions can lead us away from what God wants from us, but you are awake and alert, ready for what the Lord has for you! As you mentioned, His grace is more than sufficient to have us walk in our identity in Christ, each day is a new day. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world!
    The enemy is attacking but God’s power is greater and stronger! Jesus said, “Ye shall ask anything in My Name and I will do it.
    If we spent the time we are complaining, in prayer confessing that God is all powerful and able to do all, so much more can be accomplished but we ARE GETTING THERE! Thank to the encouraging messages you and Pastor Jim are giving us!

  3. There are so many distractions in this world today that often times we are focusing on the past or the future. We forget to saver the moment and be in the presence of God. When we still our minds is when we can hear the voice of God and soak in His love, wisdom and Oneness with us.
